the shift

The time is drawing near, my oldest child, Savannah, is about to start kindergarten. I have created the ideal school experience (at least from my perspective!), a cooperative where the parents are assistant teachers, a short schedule so that we are still out living life at this fun age, and with a Waldorf influence to support her magical world. So why am I all of a sudden having butterflies?!?

This new little haircut (see previous post) has changed my baby into this little girl. This free spirit who is stretching the boundaries of her independence, now looks the part of a "kid," not a baby, not a toddler...she is reaching a milestone. God, I hope I survive it!

I have to take a picture of her with her new look. I promise, I'll do that tomorrow and report back!

life's lessons

I love my kids. They are so fun, I mean really...look at these faces! They are all about playing and being themselves and just living to the fullest. Hmmm, some good life lessons! Here we are at the park playing with some friends.

This was before they gave each hair cuts today...for the second time. You see, that is not some super chic, salon do that Savannah is sporting in this image. Oh, no, she is quite the talented stylist, giving herself a 80's rocker chick look. Well, today's look lacked the same style that I was able to see in the previous cut. So I did it, what I always swore I wouldn't do. I gave my kid a haircut like I had, the bowl look, short to even it all out. And then I realized, all too late, what an error in judgment that was. The salon?! Why didn't we just wait to go to the salon?? And therein lies more important life lessons: patience, hopefully, forgiveness (from Savannah and for myself!), & flexibility.

So, go, have fun, be yourself, be patient & flexible, and forgive those who try to impede your style.

what about the banner?

I have played around with the banner on my blog several times, and usually, after a couple of days, I go back to just text. But something just doesn't feel right about that! I am a photographer for crying out loud! I need to have an image in the banner, right? Tell me what you think. I love this photo, l-o-v-e it! (You can also see it on display at Growing Young Cafe...more on the grand opening in a few days).

growing young cafe

I have found my new hot spot in Asheville. It's called Growing Young Cafe...yummy coffee and treats, close to our co-op school, where I get a wireless signal and can let my kiddos play? There is a lot of potential here!! : )
You should stop by, tomorrow is the grand opening (2-4), and I'll be there capturing it all! Ribbon Cutting at 4:00. It's at 611 Tunnel Rd. And if you can't make it tomorrow, they are open M-F, 7:30-5:30 with crafts, classes, even drop off care during certain hours...and displaying some of the most fabulous art and photography in town I must say!

the whole big family

You may recognize the baby in this first picture from my last post. I love that I got a chance to capture her with "G-Maw," the matriarch of the family. This was a family reunion for a family that knows how to do it! Everyone together, coordinated tee shirts, & on one of the most happening weekends in Asheville...Bele Chere! They were lots of fun, and of course, I can't stay away from the kids!!

blue eyes, baby's got...

blue eyes...I'll say! Am I the only one who hears music when I look at these images? I'm starting to wonder.

roller derby

More family fun for the summer...we checked out the roller derby action at the Civic Center. Asheville's Wham Bam Thank You Ma'ams rocked the house. My kids sat through an entire bout...I couldn't believe it!

God Bless America

Wow, I had no idea I was so far behind in editing my own personal photos! Ok, so it's a month later, but here is one of my favs from July 4th. This has been a busy summer. I promise, another blog post with images tomorrow!
